Merging Art & Science in Design!
If you spend any time on Twitter you’ll quickly see that it is littered with Tweets such as ” 50 Inspirational Designs” or ” Red Hot CSS Designs. ” While most if not all of these sites are indeed visually stunning we find many of them to be nearly impossible to navigate and so chaotic that it’s difficult to figure out what these companies actually do.
{ Sometimes design can hinder function. }
Our position is that design should support function where the goal is providing value to the users as well as the clients advertisers. The goal of any online venture should be profitability rather than bragging rights related to aesthetics.
If we take a look at the top, and arguably the most profitable websites in the world we find:
- Yahoo!
- YouTube
- Wikipedia
- Microsoft
- Wordpress
- Ebay
- Amazon
Putting the social media components of these sites aside, none of these are going to win a ” Most Inspirational Design” contest. Rather, these companies focused on function first and then created designs that are clean, simple and easy to navigate. They integrated the psychology of color and paid close attention to site metrics.
